International
Air Tattoo 2006
The Royal International Air Tattoo is the world’s greatest military airshow and
is held each year at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire in support of the RAF
Benevolent Fund.
Well, the long awaited aviation event of the year took place in the Cotswolds under near
cloudless skies and temperatures well up into the 80s as
crowds
flocked to the shrine of the annual Air Tattoo.
Whilst the static park
was again smaller, compared with previous years, the events in the air more than
made up for it. With the first outing of the Bell-Boeing MV-22B Osprey making
its airshow debut together with the 'one-off' MiG-29M (OVT) with vectored thrust
made it a truly great show.
